Een slager als voorzitter van de Vegetariërsbond?
Ja, zestigers, man. Wie had dat gedacht. Grijsaards inmiddels – in ieder geval voor een belangrijk deel (al is dat op de foto hiernaast nog niet te zien) -, maar nog steeds geen ‘mannen van het midden’. Alhoewel … ik voel me ook bepaald niet thuis bij wat er tegenwoordig op de flanken gebeurt. Heeft wat mij betreft ook niet zoveel te maken met ‘links’ of ‘rechts’, maar is gewoon ‘mataglap’. En op de één of andere manier weet die verdraaide Rutte daar het meeste garen bij te spinnen.
Brief Rob Vrolijk aan Loek Borrèl
Neem bijvoorbeeld dat listige lekken uit de ministerraad. Op 30 april – dus ná die listige lek – was voormalig hockeyster en huidig sportpresentatrice Hélène Hendriks te gast in het tv-programma De Vooravond met Fidan Ekiz en Renze Klamer. Ze vertelde dat ze VVD had gestemd en dat ze al die ruis rondom Rutte niet begreep. Zeker niet omdat we via dat listige lekken inmiddels hebben begrepen dat álle politici boter op hun hoofd hebben. Het land was in crisis en volgens haar moest er niet te lang stil worden gestaan bij dit akkevietje. Er moest zo snel mogelijk een nieuw landsbestuur worden gevormd. Bij voorkeur onder de bezielende leiding van de demissionair premier, zo suggereerde ze naar mijn idee.
Geniale marketing
Om te beginnen heeft Rutte op de inhoud – zoals ik in een vorig schrijven al meldde – niet bepaald een succesvol beleid gevoerd de afgelopen 10 jaar. Maar interessanter is het gegeven dat haar opinie tekenend is voor het verschuiven van de communis opinio. Niet alleen Rutte is in die nieuwe beeldvorming een onbetrouwbare leugenaar, maar álle politici. En zoals jij kunt genieten van een scherp politiek spel, heb ik hetzelfde met briljante marketing. Want dat is het: een gigantische marketingtruc die – naar ik zeer sterk vermoed – uit de koker van de VVD komt. Want als alle huidige regeerders onbetrouwbare leugenaars zijn, is er geen reden om Rutte niet aan te stellen als de nieuwe ‘roverhoofdman’.
Schuld en boete
Inmiddels is de draai compleet. Ook bij ‘links’. Of moet ik wellicht zeggen: ‘vooral bij “links”’. Toch een beetje de verpersoonlijking van het ‘schuld-en-boete-spel’. Een schuldige vinden en vervolgens boetedoening afdwingen. En dan bij voorkeur niet bij de tegenstanders – want die kennen schuld noch schaamte en zijn toch al reddeloos verloren -, maar in eigen kring. Het is niets voor niets dat de PvdA als enige werkelijke conclusies heeft getrokken uit de toeslagenaffaire en haar leider min of meer tot aftreden heeft gedwongen. Dat siert die partij, maar het is bij tijd en wijle tenenkrommend om te zien hoe diep die reflex zit ingebakken in de linkse goegemeente.
Macht en tegenmacht
Wat mij betreft blijkt uit die bewuste notulen eerlijk gezegd niet zo heel veel schokkends. Goed, dat je met een sensibiliserende Wopke Hoekstra als partijgenoot geen tegenstanders meer nodig hebt, is redelijk schokkend. Maar toch meer een partijaangelegenheid. En ook het gekonkel van de andere ministers verdient zeker geen schoonheidsprijs. Tegelijkertijd is dit wel politiek op het scherpst van de snede. Ze hadden zo verdomde veel last van die kritische kamerhorzels, dat het niet vreemd is dat ze daar in de beslotenheid van de ministerraad soms dingen over zeiden die qua politieke mores over het randje waren. Aan de andere kant is het aan de overige coalitiegenoten in de Kamer om weerwerk aan de tegenwerking te bieden zoals Pieter Omtzigt (CDA) en Helma Lodders (VVD) deden. Dat is precies die macht en tegenmacht waar iedereen het over heeft.
Sigrid Kaag
Overigens denk ik dat jij Sigrid Kaag in je brief tekortdoet. Zij nam het – blijkens de geopenbaarde ministerraadnotulen – als enige bewindsvrouw op voor het dualistische model. Ze zei dat ‘het in een democratie een gezond teken is dat er fel wordt gedebatteerd.’ Goed, ze reageerde in de aanloop naar die openbaarmaking omfloerst en ontwijkend, maar enige terughoudendheid lijkt me in zo’n situatie niet onverstandig. Of ze daarmee het nieuwe leiderschap belichaamt, weet ik niet. Ze bewijst in ieder geval wél dat ze bereid is om tegen de politieke stroom in te roeien.
De transparantie van de leugenaar
Maar daar gaat het me nu niet specifiek om. Bottomline in deze kwestie is dat alle politici – net als alle gewone burgers trouwens! – weliswaar boter op hun hoofd hebben, maar dat er precies één minister is die de Tweede Kamer keihard en aantoonbaar heeft voorgelogen. Meerdere keren zelfs, al was dat nooit zo duidelijk als de laatste keer. En die notoire leugenaar heeft het met zijn sinistere club van nepliberalen zó weten te draaien, dat hij de aangewezen persoon zou zijn om leiding te geven aan het proces om de Nederlandse politiek transparanter en democratischer te maken. Dat is toch wel heel erg kras. Hij is niet alleen de slager die zijn eigen vlees keurt, hij wil – nog steeds als slager – tevens voorzitter van de Nederlandse Vegetariërsbond worden.
