Rob, je laatste bijdrage heeft me nogal geraakt. Niet dat ik eerder de frame ‘het is de schuld van Wouter Bos’ niet eerder had gehoord, maar meer omdat ik langzamerhand tot de conclusie moet komen dat politiek bedrijven steeds meer een marketing-verhaal begint te worden. Niet de inhoud telt meer bij het kiezersvolk, maar hoe jij jezelf in de kijker weet te zetten met door spindokters en reclameschrijvers bedachte waanbeelden.
Brief Loek Borrèl aan Rob Vrolijk
Deze formatie om een nieuw kabinet in elkaar te knutselen krijgt langzamerhand vervelende trekjes. Je ziet Rutte – juist ja, de ‘pathologische leugenaar pur sang’ – zijn gemaakte vrolijkheid weer in elke camera etaleren, joviaal doen, extra hard praten (‘schreeuwen’ in de volksmond) als ie over het Binnenhof loopt en vooral nietszeggende antwoorden aan journalisten geeft. En dan die Hoekstra, die in elk gesprek zo nietszeggend is, dat het gewoon vervuiling van het televisiescherm begint te worden. Wopke die nog een hele Doos van Pandora onder het tapijt moet vegen voordat het CDA-congres in september de sleutel van de partij in de Noordzee kiepert. Maar ook Kaag, die haar afkeer van Rutte’s kinderachtig gedrag nauwelijks van haar gezicht kan vegen, moet toch wat ‘nieuw leiderschap’ tonen. Tot nu toe zijn het vooral inhoudsloze woorden, die – volgens een nijvere Mariette Hamer – mooi op een A4’tje kunnen. Met de handtekening van Rutte en Kaag eronder.
Time out
Omdat de hoofdrolspelers hebben bedacht eerst nog een aantal weken vakantie te nemen. Om rustig aan het A4’tje te gaan werken, maar ook om Rutte de tijd te geven zich te laten fotograferen op (dance-) festivals, buurtbarbecues, in PVV-gemeente Volendam en op andere plekken waar het ‘volk’ recreëert, heb ik maar eens besloten om mijn blik op andere politieke zaken te werpen.
Even iets over de fusiegemeente…
Afgelopen woensdag was ik getuige van de eerste massabijeenkomst van de nieuw op te zetten gemeentelijke politieke partij PRO. Het is een gezamenlijke lijst van Progressief Landerd, PvdA en D66 en onafhankelijken in de nieuw te vormen gemeente Maashorst. De bijeenkomst werd gehouden in het café van De Pul. Dezelfde ruimte waar 23 jaar geleden een aantal vrijwilligers een afdeling van GroenLinks uit de grond stampte. Dat deze afdeling dan weer niet meedoet aan PRO, maar met een eigen lijst mee gaat doen aan de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen van november is weer een ander, bitter verhaal.
Op weg naar een vreselijke toekomst
De sfeer tijdens de avond was zeker niet slecht, hele aardige mensen, waarvan velen nog wel het hart op links zullen hebben. Tenminste, dat gevoel kreeg ik, nadat ik de uitkomsten van een enquêtevraag op het scherm zag verschijnen.
Terwijl elke bezoeker van de avond zich direct inschreef voor de nieuwe partij, liet ik dit aan mij voorbijgaan. Ik wilde op de avond toehoorder blijven, niet meer en niet minder. En toen gebeurde het waar ik altijd al bang voor ben: de aanwezigen werd gevraagd om via een app op hun telefoon mee te praten over de toekomst van de partij. Dan zit je met een mens of vijfentwintig in een ruimte en weet je als ‘vernieuwende’ partij in 1, 2, 3- knopjes op je mobiele telefoon de spontaniteit van de discussies om zeep te helpen. Wat is dit voor een vreselijke toekomst wanneer je bij elkaar zit en alleen met elkaar kan communiceren via een beeldschermpje. Ja, na elke beantwoording op een vraag, kon je nog iets mondeling toelichten. Maar het gemis aan een echte discussie vind ik fnuikend.
Minimale inhoud
Sowieso vond ik het inhoudelijk heel minimaal wat PRO tot nu toe kan toevoegen. Gemeenplaatsen als ‘verbinding’, ‘bestuurlijke vernieuwing’, ‘bevolking erbij betrekken’, ‘duurzaamheid’, ‘vergroening’, ‘diversiteit’, ‘inclusiviteit’ zijn leuk, maar hebben voor mij geen enkele betekenis als een partij niet vooral aangeeft waar ze nu echt voor staat. PRO staat nog aan het allereerste begin van het bestaan. Over vijf maanden doemen de verkiezingen al op, maar van enige druk lijkt geen sprake. Dat is misschien nog wel het allerleukste van de avond, die totale ongedwongen houding van de aanwezigen… behalve dan van die GroenLinks voorvrouw, die de sfeer verpestte door erop te wijzen dat er snel gehandeld moest worden, wilde PRO klaar zijn voor de verkiezingen.
Ik volg graag nog even dit soort partijen. Je weet maar nooit, wordt het misschien toch nog leuk in de nieuwe gemeenteraad…
De vrijheid van de ‘opgelegde’ rust
Nu al die versoepelingen in deze coronatijd een feit zijn en we terugkeren naar het oude normaal, moet me van het hart dat ik de rust van de coronatijd vreselijk zal missen. Ik ben sowieso niet een persoon die bijna sterft als de terrasjes niet opengaan, een avondje niet kan dansen of een flinke steak kan nuttigen in een van die vele ongezellige horecagelegenheden. Ik heb gemerkt dat de ‘opgelegde’ rust me heel veel vrijheid gaf (laat die Willem Engel dit maar niet horen; ik kaap nu zijn ‘vrijheid’). Vooral in mijn hoofd. Mijn zwart-schrijvende vulpen heeft nimmer zoveel rondingen weten te maken op het witte vel. Boeken lijk ik te verslinden en ik heb – na ruim drieëndertig jaar – de belofte aan mijn vader ingelost om me meer in zijn ‘Indische’ leven te verdiepen. Een geschiedenis, die mij niet bekend was en waar ik me achteraf ook voor schaam dat ik niet vaker met mijn vader hierover heb kunnen spreken. Maar tegelijkertijd kan ik zeggen dat de rust in het afgelopen jaar me heeft doen beseffen dat het doorgronden van allerlei onderwerpen nog zo veel rijkdom schenkt. Ik miste alleen het oog-in-oog-contact met mensen. Dat zoomen heb ik verafschuwd, zoals ook de stroom van WhatsApp riedeltjes me gestolen kunnen worden.
De vrees voor het oude normaal
En toch… ik vrees het oude normaal. Joop den Uyl zei aan de vooravond van de grote Arabische olieboycot in 1973: ‘Zo bezien, keert de wereld van voor de oliecrisis niet terug’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNYgIUUtIZs). Die wereld kwam terug, smeriger, corrupter en alleen nog maar gericht op winst, winst en winst… Het is nu niet anders. Ook Rutte had het steeds over het ‘nieuwe’ normaal. We zouden lering trekken uit de wanorde die door Covid-19 aan de oppervlakte kwam. Het applaus is verstomd, we mogen weer. En dat laten we ons geen tweede keer zeggen. Heerlijk, toch?
En de voorgenomen verbeteringen dan?
Er zal niets terecht komen van al die voorgenomen verbeteringen. Hebben de betreffende ‘slimme’ mensen in die crisistijd wel een routekaart ontworpen waar we daadwerkelijk mee bezig moeten zijn. En waarom hebben Rutte en Hoekstra het steeds over een blokkade van een ‘linkse’ wolk, terwijl we nu eigenlijk een beleid nodig hebben dat een aantal grote vraagstukken in de sociale samenhang, het klimaat, de volkshuisvesting, het onderwijs en de zorg gaan oplossen. Daar hebben we een zo groot mogelijk deel van de bevolking en de politiek voor nodig. Helaas gaat Rutte nog een aantal weken de joviale toer op… zal het hem een zorg wezen?
